Martinez Tabbed HVIAC Men's Volleyball Player of the Week

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Recognizing his efforts in leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team to a 2-0 mark last week, junior Norrin Martinez (Maspeth, N.Y./Holy Cross) was named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending February 22, as announced by the conference office yesterday.

Martinez amassed 21 aces, 43 assists, six kills and eight digs during a pair of straight set victories over Sarah Lawrence and Cooper Union as the Bears extended their winning streak to then three games.

During the win over Sarah Lawrence, Martinez landed 13 services aces, breaking a school record that's lasted for three years. He followed that up the next day with eight more aces against Cooper Union.

Martinez receives the award for the first time in his career and is currently the Division III leader in aces per set with 1.30 pacing the Bears atop nation with 3.56 aces per set.

The Bears (5-3) winners of four of their last five return to action tomorrow opening HVIAC play against Willoughby Ave. rivals Pratt Institute in a battle for the early first place league lead. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. with live stats at SJCBears.com
