Men's Volleyball Suffers First Loss of Season vs. Borough Rivals Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team was unable to keep pace with a Brooklyn College squad that hit .429 on Monday night, falling in straight sets to their borough rivals at The Hill Center.

How it Happened

  • The Bears kept pace early in the first set, drawing even at 4-4 following Clyde Delacruz's ace.
  • Leading 6-5, the Bulldogs ran off the next six points, four of them errors, to seize control of the first set and eventually cruised to a 25-13 victory.
  • Nolan Parr's kill and an ensuing error by the Bulldogs gave St. Joseph's an early 2-1 advantage in the second. But Brooklyn claimed the next three points to regain the lead, one they would hold the remainder of a 25-14 victory to establish a dominant 2-0 advantage.
  • In the third, the Bulldogs rode 11 Bear errors to a 25-11 win and a straight-set match victory.

For the Bears

  • Seniors Clyde Delacruz and Thomas Kennedy led the Bears' offense with five kills apiece. Kennedy also anchored the defense with a match-best seven digs.
  • Senior Norrin Martinez orchestrated 13 assists, adding one ace and one kill.
  • Senior Nolan Parr contributed a pair of kills and led St. Joseph's with two aces.

For the Bulldogs

  • Rudy Zhao slammed a match-high 12 kills to lead the attack, adding three aces to go along with a .579 kill-percentage.
  • Vaughn Titus added nine kills, three aces and a team-high six digs.
  • Sayuj Zachariah directed the offense with 21 assists to lead all players.
