Ledwich Picked to Lead Men’s Volleyball Program

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Director of Athletics and Recreation James Lally has recently introduced Mark Ledwich as the Bears next head men's volleyball coach.

"We are very excited to welcome Mark Ledwich to the Bears family, as he takes the reigns of our men's volleyball program," said Lally. "Mark brings with him experience as a student-athlete and coach, with ties to volleyball in New York City that will help in creating a program that continuously competes for championships."

Ledwich comes to Clinton Hill as the club director and coach of Viper Sports NYC, a boys and girls club program based in Brooklyn that competes in the Garden Empire Volleyball Association. Additionally, he is the assistant girl's varsity coach and middle school coach of the Dalton School in Manhattan.

"Being selected to take over the men's volleyball program at St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn is an honor," remarked Ledwich on the appointment. "Thank you to James Lally and the athletic department, as well as the students for the opportunity to grow the game of volleyball."

Ledwich was exposed to competitive volleyball late in his athletic career but instantly fell in love with the sport since he began playing for the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. A three-year captain for the River Hawks, who competed at the club level in the New England Collegiate Volleyball League, Ledwich was a libero his freshman year before assuming the setting role his final three seasons.

After completing his playing career, the Massachusetts native moved on to coaching where he had previous stints coaching the 18-and-under teams of the Andover Pumas in Andover, Mass. and the Starlings of Manhattan. He also helped start a summer volleyball program based out of Casco, Maine where he has worked every summer since 2008.

Ledwich currently resides in Queens, N.Y. and when not playing or coaching volleyball, he works as a sound technician for commercials and movies.

The Bears will open the Ledwich era on January 20 facing John Jay College at 5 p.m. St. Joseph's will host John Jay, City College of New York and Mount Ida for the inaugural Clinton Hill Classic featuring seven games at The Hill Center from January 20-22.
