Men's Volleyball Drops Pair to Mount Saint Vincent and Ramapo in Skyline Opener

MAHWAH, N.J. — Junior Alec Smalley (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) totaled nine kills and Thomas Ambrosino (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp) chipped in six kills as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) opened Skyline Conference play with a pair of straight-set losses to the College of Mount Saint Vincent and Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon at the Bradley Center.

• The Bears held brief leads early in the first and second stanzas and played their closest frame of the match in the third. They trailed by just two late in the set, 18-16, after a 6-0 run highlighted by a Angelo Goutzinopoulos and Andre Williams block and a service ace from Keyshawn Wright.
• Alec Smalley paced the attack with four kills and added eight digs and two blocks on the defensive end.
• Thomas Ambrosino chipped in three kills and brought up a match-high 14 digs.
• Goutzinopoulos finished with a pair of kills and a pair of blocks with five digs.
• Mount Saint Vincent totaled 31 kills and nine aces, led by Sean O'Connor's nine kills and seven digs.

How it Happened vs. Ramapo

• Seven different Roadrunners landed a kill and combined for 37 at a .278 clip to sweep the tri-match and pick up two wins in their league opener.
• A close second set saw seven ties and three lead changes and the Bears down just 13-12 before the hosts went on a 12-1 run to close out the frame.
• Smalley paced the attack once again pounding five kills and landed the Bears lone ace. He also brought up four digs.
• Ambrosino added three kills and five digs, while Goutzinopoulos contributed a pair of kills and a block.
• Marek Mlynarski anchored the defense with nine digs.
• Luke Lallo led Ramapo with nine kills against only one error for a .727 hitting game.
