Men's Volleyball Drops First Road Match of the Season at City College

NEW YORK — For their first road contest of 2018, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team traveled to Nat Holman Gymnasium to battle the City College of New York on Friday night. SJC lost one-sidedly in three-sets falling to 0-2 on the year (0-5 in all-time series). For the Bears, Sean Salomons (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) (1 ace, 3 digs) and Israel Bautista (Forest Hills, N.Y./Forest Hills) tied for the team-high with two kills apiece. Senior Alec Willis (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) totaled a kill, an assist, and a block, while Tim Driscoll (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) notched a kill, an assist, and a dig in his debut. Sophomore Stephen Eddy (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King) was setting up his teammates finishing with a team-high three assists (3 digs, 1 blk).

The Beavers started hot going up 12-1 in the first led by three aces from David Cham (game-high 10 k). St. Joseph's struggled to keep up, although they secured a 4-1 run late behind two points from Salomons, dropping the opening frame 25-8. SJC scored the first point of the second, but immediately gave up an 11-1 run and subsequently dropped the set 25-6. After slipping behind 13-2 to open the third, the visitors reeled off a 5-1 run with Driscoll serving, capped off by a Salomons kill bringing the deficit to 14-7. CCNY responded with a 10-2 spurt to take control, topping things off with a 25-12 victory.

St. Joseph's is back on the court next Friday (Feb. 9) at New Jersey City for a 7 p.m. start.
