Men’s Volleyball Concludes Non-Conference Play With Tri-Match in Beantown

BOSTON, Mass. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team took a pair of 3-0 defeats to Nichols College and Emmanuel College to conclude their trip to Boston this weekend.

How it Happened vs. Nichols (25-13, 25-10, 25-15)

Both teams remained close early on and Nichols (9-5) held a 10-8 before breaking away with a 7-2 run and winning the final eight of nine points in a 25-13 frame.

The Bears were unable to get anything going in the second and thirds sets, as they were plagued by 16 miscues against eight kills.

Ramizjon Khudoyorov (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) and Stephen Eddy (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King) had four kills each to lead the Bears but it wasn't enough to counter the Bisons who finished the match hitting .333 with 33 kills and 10 aces.

How it Happened vs. Emmanuel (25-20, 25-13, 25-22)

St. Joseph's (2-8) had a more competitive match against the hosts in their second match of the day. The Bears trailed by just two late in the opening frame, 22-20, but the Saints closed out the set with three-straight points.

The hosts ran away with the second stanza and the Bears came alive again in the third. Neither team led by more than two in a back-and-forth frame and the navy and gray creeped out to a 20-18 lead before the Saints responded with three unanswered to go back on top. SJC drew even at 21-all, but Emmanuel took four of the next five to close out the match, 25-22.

Khudoyorov led the offense with six kills and seven digs, while Eddy followed with four kills and six digs. Juan Herran Ocampo (Armenia, Colombia/Manhattan Comprehensive Night and Day) dished out 10 assists and Rogers Hatanga Kwiringira (Corona, N.Y./Greater New York Academy) brought up a match-high 11 digs.
