Emily Palmieri Receives USCAA Co-Player of the Week Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – In recognition of her outstanding play for the week ending April 26, freshman Emily Palmieri(Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Co-Player of the Week in an announcement released by the association earlier today.

This is her first time receiving the honor and the first Lady Bear to receive the honor this season with Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) and Lisa Scheer (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) taking USCAA Pitcher of the Week honors earlier this year.

Palmieri, a freshman first baseman, led the Lady Bears to a 3-1 record last week with a split against Purchase and a sweep of Brooklyn College.  She compiled a .636 batting average (7-for-11) and 1.091 slugging percentage with two triples, one double, six RBI and two runs scored.  Palmieri was also perfect in the field in 27 chances (25 putouts, 2 assists).

After a slow start to the season, Palmieri has picked it up of late and is working on a four-game hitting streak and now ranks second on the team in batting and RBIs.
