Marino Named AD3I Player of the Week

BROOKLYN, NY – For the first time in her career, sophomore Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) has been named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Player of the Week for the week ending May 1st. Marino joins teammates Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) and Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes) as recipients of the weekly honor this season.

Marino batted .625 (10-for-16) this week as the Lady Bears went 5-1. She lifted her batting average over 40 points to a team leading .472. Marino also slugged 1.000 as five of her ten hits went for extra bases. She scored eight runs, drove in six and stole two bases on the week.

Led by Marino, St. Joseph's defeated Albertus Magnus and Sarah Lawrence to win the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Tournament this past weekend. The Lady Bears also split with Division III rival St. Joseph's College – Long Island.

St. Joseph's will conclude their season at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships in Akron, Ohio. This marks the third straight season the Lady Bears have made the eight team, double-elimination tournament. The third seeded Lady Bears begin their title run on Friday at 12:00 pm as they take on sixth seeded Penn State Mont Alto. Fans can catch all the action live at www.sjcbears.com or www.theuscaa.com.
