BELLEROSE, NY – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team got into the win column with a dominating sweep of the College of New Rochelle in their home opener. St. Joseph's held the Blue Angels to one hit all afternoon, winning by a final score of 12-0 in both games in five innings, on Friday afternoon at Padavan-Preller Field.

Senior Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) fired her fifth career no-hitter in the opener while fellow senior Lisa Scheer (Bayside, NY/Mary Louis) hurled a one-hitter in the nightcap.

Chiaramonte struck out 11 without surrendering a walk in five innings of work.  Her only baserunner reached on an error in the fourth inning, separating her from her third career perfect game.

Scheer also carried a perfect game into the fourth inning before a Genesis Garcia grounder made its way deep into the left side allowing her to beat Megan Moran's (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic's) throw to first.  Scheer finished with five strikeouts without a walk.

The Lady Bears scored in bunches belting out 18 hits and drawing 18 walks on the afternoon.  After plating two runs in the first, St. Joseph's broke open game one with a five-run second inning, with all the runs coming with two outs.  Scheer and Chiaramonte started the carousel with RBI doubles followed by RBI singles from Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes), Cassandra Molinari (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) and Moran.

St. Joseph's posted another five-run frame to open the nightcap, with Scheer helping her own cause with a two RBI double, later followed by a RBI single from Kakavas.  After loading the bases, Jillian Troise (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) and Millicia Malvasio (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) drew walks to bring in two more runs.

The Lady Bears followed up with a six-run second inning highlighted by a Kakavas triple that brought home two runs and Emily Palmieri (Staten Island, NY/St. John's Villa), Troise and Scheer following with RBI singles.

For the afternoon, Kakavas collected four hits, five RBI, four runs, a triple and a stolen base.  Scheer accumulated five RBI, three hits, three runs scored, two doubles and three walks and made her first career start in the outfield in game one.  Troise and Palmieri each had two hits and two runs scored for the twinbill, Troise with two RBI and Palmieri with a RBI.

St. Joseph's improves to 2-6, while New Rochelle falls to 1-12.  The Lady Bears also improve to 20-0 in the all-time series.
