Marino Knocks 100th Hit, Perillo Blasts Grand Slam in Softball Sweep of New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Senior Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) went 5-for-6 and sophomore Jackie Perillo (Howard Beach, NY/Archbishop Molloy) launched a grand slam en route to an eight-RBI evening, leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team to a doubleheader sweep of The College of New Rochelle, 18-3 and 15-4, on Thursday evening at Flowers Park.

The Lady Bears (9-10-1, 1-0 HVWAC) move within one game of .500 for the second time this season and take all four games of the season series against their Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference foes Blue Angels (3-20, 0-1).

Marino reached the century-hit milestone in the opener and finished with four RBI, two runs scored and a double. Three Lady Bears finished with five hits on the night with Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St Joseph's) also collecting six RBI and a double and Megan Moran (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic's) scoring four times with RBI.

St. Joseph's posted nine runs in the opening frame of both ends of the twin bill and New Rochelle would never threaten, held to just seven hits over the five-inning affairs.

Perillo's grand slam in the nightcap highlighted three blasts from the Lady Bears with Cassandra Molinari (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) and Morgan Summers (Bellerose, NY/St. Mary's) hitting their first homers of the season.

Perillo also earned the win in the circle in the opener tossing three strong innings striking out five and allowing three runs to improve to 4-3. Marino captured her first career victory in the nightcap firing three innings of two-run ball, striking out three.
