Perillo Named Pitcher of the Week, Summers Rookie of the Week as Lady Bears Sweep HVWAC Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team took home all three Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) weekly awards as Jackie Perillo (Howard Beach, NY/Archbishop Molloy) was named Softball Pitcher of the Week and Morgan Summers (Bellerose, NY/St. Mary's) received Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced yesterday.

Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) garnered Player of the Week accolades in St. Joseph's second three-award sweep this season.

Sophomore Perillo earns her second Pitcher of the Week honor this season recording two of the Lady Bears wins this past week in the circle, working 10 innings, surrendering seven earned runs on 12 hits and striking out five. The outfielder/pitcher threw a complete game in St. Joseph's win over Brooklyn College as she allowed just four earned runs and improved to a team-best 5-3 in the circle. The sophomore also helped her cause at the plate in the win going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two triples.

Freshman Summers batted .308 (4-for-13) with six RBI and four runs scored as the Lady Bears went 3-1 over the week. The rookie first baseman hit her first career home run against HVWAC foe New Rochelle going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI. Summers, who also received both HVWAC Swimmer and Rookie of the Week honors and was an HVWAC All-Conference Swimming Team, receives her first softball weekly award.

Next up for the Lady Bears (10-11-1) is a doubleheader against Baruch, this Friday April 26th, at Padavan-Preller field with first pitch slated for 4 p.m.
