Lady Bears Softball Sweeps Sarah Lawrence to Move Above .500

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Lady Bears bats rang out 32 hits and plated 21 runs as St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) took both ends of a twin bill against Sarah Lawrence College, 12-1 in five innings and 11-1, in a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) matchup at Mary Levine Field on Thursday night.

The Lady Bears (12-11-1, 2-0 HVWAC) improve to a winning record for the first time this season winning five of their last six, while the Gryphons (0-21) remain searching their first win.

In the opener, the Gryphons would score a solo run in the first to take a 1-0 lead, but the Lady Bears responded by scoring in pairs in the second and third innings highlighted by a Jackie Perillo (Howard Beach, NY/Archbishop Molloy) solo blast to open the third and broke the game open with a five-run fourth.

In the nightcap, three errors in the second doomed the hosts as the Lady Bears pushed across three runs which was all they needed, but couldn't pull away from the Gryphons leading 6-1 after five, but scoring four in the seventh off RBI doubles from Perillo, Millicia Malvasio (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) and Cassandra Molinari (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep).

Danielle Marino led 11 different Lady Bears with base hits, finishing 5-for-8 with four doubles and two RBI and also scored her 100th career run in the process. Malvasio belted three hits, two double and drove in a team-best six RBI.

Perillo improved to 6-3 in the circle tossing five innings of two hit ball, allowing one run and striking out five and finished with four hits at the plate, scoring four runs. Molinari earned her first career win in the circle in her first start working five innings, surrendering one run and striking out four.
