The Bear Facts

Last Time Out: Offense was hard to come by for St. Joseph's as they dropped a pair of 8-0 decisions to the University of Wisconsin-Superior and the College at Brockport in five innings to conclude their season-opening Florida trip at the Gene Cusic Classic on Thursday.

St. Joseph's returns home to New York after going 0-6 in Florida to begin the season. The Lady Bears look to get their bats going as they faced tough competition in the Sunshine State hitting only .167, while the pitching staff struggled as well, compiling a 13.21 ERA during the trip. After going 8-6 at home a year ago, St. Joseph's looks to use Padavan-Preller Field to their advantage as they play six of their next ten games there.

This week's HVIAC Player of the Week Cassandra Molinari has started the season off on a tear, batting a team-high .467 (7-for-15) with a team-high-tying two runs scored along with an RBI. The junior leads the Lady Bears with a .467 slugging percentage and .467 on base percentage and has recorded a hit in four of St. Joseph's first six contests. Last year's AD3I All-Independent First Team selection also has been a threat from behind the plate, throwing out four runners.

Also contributing at the dish is HVIAC Rookie of the Week Kristin Ferrigno who has impressed in her opening games as a Lady Bear, leading the team with three RBIs and is second on the team with a .231 (3-for-13) batting average.

Leading St. Joseph's in the circle is junior Jackie Perillo who went 7-6 last season, but struggled to begin the season, going 0-3 with a 13.07 ERA in 15.0 innings down in Florida. Perillo also helps herself at the dish, hitting .231 (3-for-13) to begin the season. Freshman Jamilynn McGowan also starts in the circle for the Lady Bears and comes into today's action 0-3 with a 11.05 ERA.

Lightning Strikes

Last Time Out: Lehman dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Purchase on March 20th, falling 10-3 in game one and 11-3 in the nightcap.

Lehman enters today's matchup on a four-game losing streak after beginning the season with a pair of wins over Cedar Crest. The Lightning are coming off a season where they went 4-24 and finished sixth in the seven-team CUNYAC.

Lehman ranks third in the CUNYAC with a .240 batting average, but struggles in the circle with a 9.31 ERA which places them last. The Lightning are strong on the base paths, stealing a CUNYAC-leading 15 bases in 17 attempts.

Sheila San Andres leads the Lehman attack as a dual threat as both a pitcher and a outfielder. The senior is batting .500 (7-for-14) to start the season with a team-high seven RBIs and has five runs scored. San Andres has also compiled a 10.70 ERA in three starts going the distance twice.

One-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Meghan Bravo has four RBIs and has recorded both Lightning wins on the season, accumulating a 13.25 ERA in the circle.

The Mac Attack

Yeshiva is in their first varsity season after going 2-2 as a club team a year ago. The Maccabees opened up their season with a 13-5 loss to York College on March 18th.

Pacing the Maccabees both on offense and in the circle is Erin Potasnick who went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and one run scored versus the Cardinals. The junior also went 4 1/3 innings for Yeshiva in the opener, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits.

Sophomore Lieba Swartz-Brownstein added a 1-for-2 day with two runs scored and an RBI against York.
