Campisi Tabbed HVIAC Softball Rookie of the Week

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) announced its weekly accolades earlier today and St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball freshman Geena Campisi (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) was named the conference's Rookie of the Week after hitting .750 on the week.

The rookie had a good week for St. Joseph's, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Campisi stood out in the Lady Bears narrow game two loss to perennial USCAA power Briarcliffe, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.

The infielder drew a bases-loaded walk for her first RBI of the day to tie the score up at 1-1 in the second. Campisi would later score in the inning on a Samantha Rossi (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis) double and came through in the fifth with an RBI single up the middle to give St. Joseph's the lead back at 6-5.

Also recognized by the conference were Rossi and junior Jackie Perillo (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) who were named to the honor roll for their achievements during the week. Rossi drove in a team-high three RBI, batting 2-for-5 with a .500 on base percentage and a pair of doubles. Perillo went the distance against Briarcliffe, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts.

The Rookie of the Week honor is the first earned by the freshman this season and follows fellow freshman Kristin Ferrigno (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) who is a two-time recipient of the award.

St. Joseph's (4-10) looks to extend their winning streak to three games as they play York College in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 16th at 4 p.m.
