Simon Earns AD3I and HVIAC Top Player Honors; McGowan, Rossi Awarded HVIAC Top Pitcher and Rookie

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Recognizing her outstanding play in helping lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team to a 6-2 record on the week, freshman Samantha Simon (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) has been named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) and Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Player of the Week, while fellow freshmen Jamilynn McGowan (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides) and Samantha Rossi (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis) have received HVIAC Pitcher and Rookie of the Week.

Simon had the best week of her Lady Bear career, batting a sizzling .647 (11-for-17) on the week with nine runs scored and eight RBI along with her first career homer. The freshman recorded a base knock in all but one game this week and started off the week with a 3-for-5 day in the Lady Bears sweep of HVIAC foe New Rochelle, scoring three runs and knocking in a pair of runs with her first career homer.

The shortstop capped off the week with a perfect 4-for-4 outing against another HVIAC opponent in Sarah Lawrence, scoring four runs while driving in three and recording two doubles. Simon concluded the week with four stolen bases and put together an impressive .684 on base percentage and 1.000 slugging percentage.

McGowan was strong in the circle for the Lady Bears this week as she accumulated a 3-1 record with a 4.90 ERA in 20.0 innings with 18 punchouts and threw four innings of no-hit ball in St. Joseph's game one no-hitter at New Rochelle. The freshman also had a solid start at Valley Forge on Saturday, going six innings with two earned runs allowed on five hits, while fanning six to pick up the complete game win.

The now two-time Pitcher of the Week capped off the week with a one-hitter against Sarah Lawrence to move to 6-8 on the year. The pitcher/outfielder also had her best week as a Lady Bear with the bat, hitting .615 (8-for-13) with four RBI and two runs scored.

Rossi, last week's AD3I and HVIAC Player of the Week, continued her great play, batting a dazzling .650 (13-for-20) with a team-high-tying ten runs scored along with seven RBI and three doubles. The freshman recorded a hit in each of the seven games she played in and had five multi-hit games, including a perfect 3-for-3 day at New Rochelle, finishing with three runs scored and an RBI.

The outfielder had a great weekend for St. Joseph's, going 7-for-12 with six runs scored and five RBI as the Lady Bears swept Valley Forge and Sarah Lawrence.

Simon earns the first weekly accolades of her career and joins Rossi and junior Cassandra Molinari (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) as the lone recipients of the HVIAC award this season. McGowan follows junior Jackie Perillo (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), who took home the top pitcher honor last week, as the lone Lady Bears to earn the accolade.

Rossi is now a two-time Rookie of the Week after becoming the first St. Joseph's player to take home AD3I Player of the Week this season a week ago. The Lady Bears now have received six Rookie of the Week honors with freshman Kristin Ferrigno (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) a two-time winner and freshman Geena Campisi (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) and junior Briana Robles (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) garnering the honor once each.

St. Joseph's (13-15) looks to win their season-high sixth straight game and move to .500 on the season for the first time as they host HVIAC foe Yeshiva University in their regular season finale at 4 p.m.
