Four Lady Bears Receive All-Conference Honors From HVIAC

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – After leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team to a perfect record in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) regular season play and their sixth consecutive HVIAC Tournament title, junior Cassandra Molinari along with freshmen Kristin Ferrigno, Samantha Rossi and Samantha Simon were named to the HVIAC All-Conference Team.

Molinari earns All-Conference recognition for the second year in a row, while Ferrigno, Rossi and Simon take home the honor in their first year on campus.

Molinari had an outstanding year for the Lady Bears as she played in all 30 games primarily behind the plate and led the team with a.466 batting average in a team-high 88 at bats. The one-time HVIAC Player of the Week ended the season with a team-high 41 hits and tied for the team lead with 24 runs batted in. The junior scored 24 runs, belted eight doubles and smacked a homer and a triple on the year.

The catcher/second baseman paced the team with a .614 slugging percentage and ended the year with a .484 on base percentage. The highlight of her year came on the last day of the season in the HVIAC Tournament when she smacked her lone home run of the season versus The College of New Rochelle in the semifinals for her 100th career hit. Molinari ended the 2014 campaign with a team-high 13 multi-hit games and had multiple RBI in a team-high-tying five games.

Ferrigno had a solid rookie campaign for St. Joseph's, batting .386 with 21 RBI and 15 runs scored in 30 games. The two-time HVIAC Rookie of the Week ended the season with the second most hits on the team with 32 and accumulated five doubles in 83 at bats. The third baseman ended her strong freshman season with a .446 slugging percentage and .424 on base percentage. The freshman reached base safely in a team-high-tying 11 games midway through the season and had nine multiple hit games for the Lady Bears.

Rossi added another strong force to the Lady Bears lineup, hitting .392 on the year with a team-high-tying 24 RBI and two long balls. The one-time HVIAC Player and Rookie of the Week crushed a team-high ten doubles and finished the season with a .595 slugging percentage, good for second on the team. The outfielder also came around to score 21 times and ended the season a team-long ten-game hitting streak. The freshman ended the season with ten multi-hit games and multiple RBI a team-high-tying five times.

Simon was another important contributor from St. Joseph's large freshman class as she hit .370 with a team-high 30 runs scored in 30 games. The shortstop contributed 16 RBI and nailed her first collegiate home run at New Rochelle on April 21st. The one-time HVIAC Player of the Week also recorded six doubles and had a team-high-tying five stolen bases on the year. The freshman had nine games with multiple hits and had a nine-game hitting streak midway through the season.
