Armano Nabs HVIAC Pitcher of the Week, Eddy Named HVIAC Rookie of the Week
BROOKLYN, N.Y.—After leading the Lady Bears to a 4-0 week, freshman Theresa Armano (Middle Village, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) was awarded the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Pitcher of the Week and junior Erica Eddy (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King) was named the HVIAC Rookie of the Week.
Armano tossed two complete games last week, compiling a 2-0 record and striking out 10 batters in 12.1 innings of work. On Saturday, the freshman led the team to their first victory of the season, pitching a five-inning complete game shutout in the Lady Bears' 13-0 win over Valley Forge. The next day, Armano tossed a seven-inning complete game against Maine-Presque Isle, holding the Owls scoreless in the final four innings to give her offense room for a dramatic 6-5 walk-off victory.
Eddy was a force on the offensive end last week, hitting .600 (6-for-10), including three doubles and a triple, slugging 1.100 and driving in seven RBIs. In Saturday's 14-2 victory over Valley Forge, the junior fell a homerun short of the cycle after going a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate. On Sunday, Eddy helped St. Joseph's finish off their doubleheader sweep over Maine-Presque Isle with a 2-for-2, 4-RBI performance at the plate.
Both Armano and Eddy are first-time recipients of their respective awards.
Looking to build on their four-game winning streak, the Lady Bears will meet York (N.Y.) on Thursday for a home doubleheader (3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.) at Padavan-Preller Field. Live stats will be available at SJCBears.com.
