The Bear Facts

  • After being tested early in their inaugural season in the Skyline Conference, St. Joseph's welcomes Maine-Presque Isle seeking their first win of the season and first victory for first-year head coach Danielle Fazzolare.
  • Ranked 7th in the preseason polls, the Lady Bears dropped both twinbills last weekend against preseason No. 4 Sage and No. 5 SJC Long Island playing in some unseasonably cold weather for the first day of spring on Sunday. After a slow start against their sibling rivals, the Lady Bears bats rang out 23 hits, but couldn't keep pace with the Golden Eagles and Gators.
  • Junior co-captain Kristin Ferrigno led all Lady Bears hitting in all four games knocking five hits, three of them doubles, and driving in a team-leading four RBI.
  • Sophomore Theresa Armano got the start in the circle in three games and struck out seven over 15.0 innings of work, but seven of her runs given up were unearned. She wielded the hot bat going 4-for-5 with two doubles and a RBI in the doubleheader against Sage.
  • Junior Samantha Simon and freshman Nicole Quintana both rapped four hits and scored twice, compiling a .400 average after the first weekend of play.

Inside the Owl's Nest

  • Led by a youthful squad that features 10 freshmen and sophomore, the Owls enter with a 6-2 record. After winning five straight by run rule, UMPI split with Mass. Maritime in their last outing last Sunday, losing 2-0 before rallying 8-4 in the nightcap.
  • One of the most northern schools in the country--seven hours from Boston--UMPI will play their entire schedule on the road before hosting Fisher on Apr. 30-May 1 for their first-and-only home games of the season.
  • Sophomore Sara Packard leads the team in batting with a .375 average and .813 slugging, belting two homre runs and scoring 11 times. She also has started 7 of 8 games in the circle, compiling a 2.43 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 40.1 innings.
  • Senior Kathryn Patenaude is the top run producer with 12 RBI and a .360 batting average.
