The Lady Bear Facts

  • After splitting with Sarah Lawrence and five-time defending champions Farmingdale State last weekend, the Lady Bears remain in the hunt for a Skyline Conference Tournament berth in their first year in the league.
  • With the Farmingdale State victory giving St. Joseph's the upper hand in any tiebreaker situation with Old Westbury, the Lady Bears would need to sweep Purchase and need the Panthers to lose at least one game at SJC Long Island on Saturday in order to clinch the No. 6 seed.
  • The Lady Bears come off a dominant doubleheader shutout of Lehman College on Thursday. Over the twinbill, Nicole Quintana and Destiny Marino both knocked five hits each, Quintana driving in six RBI.
  • Junior Samantha Rossi continues to excel at the dish and became the newest member of the 100-hit club belting a pair of hits at Lehman. Her .433 average ranks in the top 10 in the league and she ranks 2nd on the team with 17 RBI.
  • Junior Kristin Ferrigno leads the team with nine extra base hits, launching her first collegiate home run on Thursday. One of three with .300+ averages, she is third on the team with a .478 slugging. She needs just four hits to join the 100-hit club.
  • After a 5-for-7 day with 6 RBI at Lehman, Nicole Quintana catapults into the team lead with 18 RBI and now ranks second on the team with a .313 average.
  • With 15 starts in the circle, sophomore Theresa Armano continues to lead SJC and lowered her ERA to 3.68 after a five-inning shutout on Thursday. Her 99.0 innings of work ranks 3rd in the Skyline.
  • After a slow start, Jamilynn McGowan has found her groove in the circle and has tossed 14 straight scoreless innings allowing just four hits. Her three-hit shutout vs. preseason favorite Farmingdale earned a key split and she fired her second one-hitter of the season against Lehman.

Panther Prowlings

  • Currently in sixth place, Purchase can clinch a Skyline Tournament berth with a sweep of SJC Long Island on Saturday. Any loss leaves the door open for the Lady Bears and Old Westbury.
  • Reigning Rookie of the Week Kelly Hayes paces the team with a lead-leading .514 batting and .806 slugging while driving in 24 RBI. Two-time Rookie of the Week follows with a .493 average (second in the Skyline) and 19 RBI.
  • One-time Pitcher of the Week Samantha Alonzo boasts a third-best 2.22 ERA and Nicole Fortuna ranks third in the league with nine wins in the circle.
