The Bear Facts

  • The Lady Bears notched their second Skyline win on Saturday in dramatic fashion, defeating Old Westbury 7-5, in nine innings in game one, matching the longest game played in team history. Despite facing an early 14-run deficit in the nightcap, SJC fought back and scoring 6 runs in the fifth to escape the run rule and plating five more in the seventh before finding their rally fall short with the tying runs on base.
  • Junior Samantha Rossi continues to be one of the hottest hitters and extended her hitting streak to 11 games after batting .563 (9-for-16) last week with seven RBI and seven runs scored. For her efforts, she was named to the Skyline honor roll for the second time this season on Tuesday. Rossi now ranks in the top 10 in batting in the league with a team-high .444 average.
  • Solidifying her spot in the 3-hole, Kristin Ferrigno ranks 2nd on the team in slugging (.511) and batting (.356) with six extra base hits.  Moving up to the leadoff position, fellow junior Samantha Simon now ranks third in hitting (.333) and a team-leading five stolen bases.
  • Sophomore Theresa Armano paces SJC in the circle with a 3.91 ERA and 42 strikeouts over 68 innings of work. She struck out her 100th career batter last week and matched a SJC record working all nine innings in the game vs. OW.

The Knightly News

  • 2015 first-teamer Chelsea Dexter leads paces the offense wtih a .476 batting and 15 RBI. Second-team honoree Shannon Sommer follows with a .385 average and 11 runs scored, swiping five bases in five attempts. Michelle Surdan ranks third with a .380 average and five extra-base hits and team-high tying 12 runs scored.
