Seven Bears Named NFCA Scholar-Athletes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Seven members of the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team have been named Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athletes for the 2015-16 school year, the Association announced recently.

"We are very proud to have such a large number of student-athletes recognized by the NFCA," remarked James Lally, director of athletics and recreation. "St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) continues to produce exemplary student-athletes, and we are grateful for this group in particular for representing our institution and department so strongly."

Kristen Candelaria, Erica Eddy, Kristin Ferrigno, Megan FinnertyMaria Gentile, Samantha Rossi, and Samantha Simon all received the distinction after posting grade point averages of 3.5 or higher for the 2015-16 academic year. All seven also were named to the Skyline Academic Honor Roll at the conclusion of last season.

"I am extremely proud of my scholar-athletes and their dedication to both academics and athletics," commented Danielle Fazzolare, who enters her second season at the helm of the Bears. "These athletes embody the meaning of scholar-athlete and are amazing examples of hard work and dedication for future recruits. We hope their success inspires other athletes to join the Bears and add to the team's success as a whole."

Over 5,000 student-athletes were recognized by the NFCA across all three NCAA Divisions, NAIA, junior colleges and high schools. NCAA Division III student-athletes made up the second largest population with 1,124 student-athletes earning the distinction.

The Bears will head south to open their 2017 campaign on March 2nd at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.
