July 13, 2011 Hudson Valley All-Academic Teams Announced NEW YORK, NY – The Hudson Valley Men’s Athletic Conference (HVMAC) and the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) released their All-Academic Teams for the Winter/Spring semester. In total, 13 Bears and Lady Bears received All-Academic Team recognition, pushing the total to 18 for the 2010-11 academic year.

The Association made the announcement yesterday, giving Kakavas her first Student-Athlete of the Month award in her career. Teammate Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) also won the award this season for the month of March.

May 5, 2011 Six Lady Bears Receive USCAA Year End Honors AKRON, OH - Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic), Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes) and Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) were named United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Softball All-Americans, highlighting six Lady Bears named to the All-American and All-Academic Teams. Marino also was named to the National All-Academic Team, becoming the first Bear or Lady Bear in any sport to receive both honors at the same time. The teams were announced at the banquet commencing the 2011 USCAA National Softball Championships.

April 30, 2011 Lady Bears Cruise to HVWAC Invitational Title BRONXVILLE, NY – In preparation for next week’s United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championship Tournament, St. Joseph’s took home the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Invitational title. The Lady Bears opened the tournament with a win against Albertus Magnus 13-1 then proceeded to defeat host Sarah Lawrence 11-0 to win the title.
April 29, 2011 Lady Bears Split with Golden Eagles on Alumni and Senior Night BELLEROSE, NY – On an event-filled Friday evening, the St. Joseph’s College Lady Bears softball team battled sister school, St. Joseph’s College – Long Island. Due to a rainy April, the Lady Bears also celebrated Alumni and Senior Night. The capacity crowd was treated to a barbeque and a pair of thrilling games. The home team won the opener 2-0, but couldn’t come back in game two as St. Joseph’s – Long Island earned the split, 4-3.

April 22, 2011 Lady Bears Sweep Lehman to Wrap Road Stretch BRONX, NY – St. Joseph’s pitchers were on display Friday afternoon in the Bronx against Lehman, holding the Lightning to just one run in the doubleheader sweep. The bats certainly did their part as well, cruising to 9-0 and 9-1 victories. The Lady Bears wrapped up their six-game road trip going 4-2 and are 20-6 on the season, reaching the 20 win mark for the seventh time in program history.

In an announcement made by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), St. Joseph’s is ranked third in the latest Coaches' Poll, the highest ever in program history. St. Joseph’s, who started the season ranked 19th, have continually climbed the board as they compiled an impressive 16-4 record.
April 19, 2011 Lady Bears Open HVWAC Play With Sweep of New Rochelle BELLEROSE – St. Joseph’s kicked off their Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference schedule with a doubleheader against New Rochelle. The Lady Bears took care of the Blue Angels, winning 11-3 and 12-0. St. Joseph’s is now 16-4 and have won six straight games.
April 14, 2011 Big Innings Lead Lady Bears to Sweep Over Albertus Magnus BELLEROSE, NY – It took a few innings for St. Joseph’s softball team to get going, but once they found their stroke they kept their foot on the gas pedal, utilizing a high-scoring inning in each game to sweep Albertus Magnus 9-1 and 15-2. The Lady Bears are now 11-1 since returning from Florida and sit at 14-4 on the season.

April 5, 2011 Kakavas Tabbed USCAA and AD3I Player of the Week; Chiaramonte Co-Pitcher of the Week BROOKLYN, NY – Junior Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes) swept the weekly award honors for the Association of Division Three Independents (AD3I) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) for the week ending April 3rd. This is Kakavas’ first time winning the award for the AD3I and her second time for the USCAA. She also won the award in May of her freshman year.
April 3, 2011 Kakavas Powers Lady Bears to Split with Briarcliffe BELLEROSE, NY – The Lady Bears lost their lead late in game one, as Briarcliffe tied the game the 6th inning on a two out single, but Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes) saved it for St. Joseph’s with a walk-off home run in the 7th to put St. Joseph's on top, 7-5. The blast to left center was her second home run of the season and the first to clear the fences at Padavan-Preller Field by any Lady Bear. It is also Kakavas' second career walk-off game-winning RBI, and the first game-winning homer.
April 2, 2011 Lady Bears Bypass York, Extend Win Streak to Six BELLEROSE, NY – The St. Joseph’s College softball kept their perfect home record intact sweeping York College 8-0 and 10-1 on Saturday afternoon at Padavan-Preller Fields, both games ending in five innings. The Lady Bears improve to 9-3 on the season and are now 9-0 all-time vs. York.

March 29, 2011 Lady Bears Jump to #6 in USCAA Polls BROOKLYN, NY – In an announcement made today by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), the St. Joseph’s softball team is ranked sixth in the weekly coaches poll. The Lady Bears climbed ten spots after being ranked #16 last week, following their 3-3 record in Fort Myers, Florida to open the season. They sit just one point behind Penn State Beaver in the poll.

March 18, 2011 Chiaramonte's Near No-Hitter Helps Lady Bears Wrap Florida Trip at 3-3 Mark FORT MYERS, FL – The St. Joseph’s College softball team wrapped up their most successful spring break trip, splitting a twin bill for the third straight game and returning home with a 3-3 record. The Lady Bears earned their third win defeating Norwich University 3-1 behind a near no-hitter from Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic). St. Joseph’s fell in the second game, 3-0, to Curry College.
March 16, 2011 Lady Bears Prevail in Extra Innings to Earn Second Win of Florida Trip CAPE CORAL, FL – The St. Joseph’s College softball team earned a hard fought victory defeating Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 3-1, in eight innings at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. The Lady Bears dropped a 10-2 decision to St. Mary’s College in the second game of the twinbill.

March 23, 2010 Chiaramonte Named USCAA & AD3I Softball Player of the Week BROOKLYN, NY – Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) led the St. Joseph’s College softball team to a 4-0 start to their 2010 season earning two wins on the mound and batting .727 (8-for-11) and was selected as the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Pitcher of the Week and Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Player of the Week for games ending March 21 as announced in releases by both Associations earlier today.
March 21, 2010 Lady Bears Remain Undefeated Sweeping City Tech BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College softball team improved to 4-0 to start the 2010 season defeating City Tech twice by a 14-0 margin on Sunday afternoon at National Grid Softball Field. Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) collected four hits, three RBI and four runs and earned a win on the mound in game two, striking out 12.
March 19, 2010 Lady Bears Ground Albertus Magnus in Season Opener WEST HAVEN, CT – The St. Joseph’s College softball team opened their 2010 campaign sweeping Albertus Magnus 9-0 and 16-1 at West Haven High School on Friday night. Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) had an impressive rookie debut collecting seven runs, five hits, four RBI, three doubles and a triple.
May 11, 2009 AD3I All-Independent Softball Teams Announced KANSAS CITY, MO – The Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) named the 2009 All-Independent Softball Teams in a press release sent out earlier today. Freshman pitchers Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) and Lisa Scheer (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) were named First Team All-Independent and senior outfielder Theresa Mendez (Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep) and freshman Caitlyn Kakavas (Queens, NY/St. Agnes) were named Second Team All-Independent. Frank P. Carbone was named 2009 Coach of the Year.
May 11, 2009 Scheer Named AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month KANSAS CITY, MO – For the second straight month and the third time this season, the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Student-Athlete of the Month hails from St. Joseph’s College. Lisa Scheer (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) a freshman pitcher/third baseman has been named the AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month for April 2009.
May 6, 2009 Lady Bears Conclude 2009 Season With Two Losses in USCAA National Championship DECATUR, IL – The St. Joseph’s College softball team ended their quest for their first USCAA National Championship with two losses in the double elimination tournament falling to Southern Virginia and Penn State-Beaver, both by a score of 5-2. The Lady Bears conclude their 2009 campaign as the winningest team in school’s history with a record of 26-10.
May 5, 2009 Lady Bears Sweep Weekly Softball Accolades BROOKLYN, NY – In announcements released earlier today, Theresa Mendez (Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep) was named Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Player of the Week, Caitlyn Kakavas (Queens, NY/St. Agnes) was named United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Player of the Week and Lisa Scheer (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) was named USCAA Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 3. The St. Joseph’s College softball team went 6-0 on the week and captured their third Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) title and extended their winning streak to eight games.
May 2, 2009 Scheer Blasts Game-Winning RBI Leading Lady Bears to HVWAC Title and Tournament MVP Honors MORRISTOWN, NJ – In one of the most exciting and intense games in St. Joseph’s College and Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) history, Lisa Scheer (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) delivered the game-winning RBI in extra innings with a shot to the left field fence and struck out 11 leading the #1 seed St. Joseph’s College softball team to their third HVWAC championship with a 2-1 victory in nine innings over #2 College of St. Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.
May 1, 2009 Lady Bears Seeded #5 for USCAA Softball National Championship NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association released the seeding for the 2009 USCAA Softball National Championship earlier today. St. Joseph’s will enter the tournament as the number five seed and will face Southern Virginia in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament hosted by Robert Morris College Springfield in Decatur, IL from May 5-7.
April 30, 2009 Kakavas' Game Winning Home Run Completes Lady Bears Sweep of Briarcliffe BROOKLYN, NY – Last week’s HVWAC Rookie of the Week, Caitlyn Kakavas(Queens, NY/St. Agnes) recorded two game-winning RBIs hitting for the cycle over both games leading the St. Joseph’s College softball team to a sweep of USCAA rival Briarcliffe College (17-11). The Lady Bears finish the regular season at 24-8 and become the winningest team in St. Joseph’s College softball history surpassing the 23-win mark set by the 2003 Lady Bears squad.

April 28, 2009 Lady Bears Celebrate Senior Night With Sweep of Golden Eagles BROOKLYN, NY – Senior co-captain Theresa Mendez(Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep) had four hits, scored three runs and drove in two over a two-game sweep of sister campus St. Joseph’s College-Long Island on Tuesday night as the Lady Bears celebrated Senior Night. Freshman Lisa Scheer (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) also had four hits, two RBI and a run and picked up a win in the nightcap. This was the first official regular season meeting between the two campuses.
April 27, 2009 Lady Bears Softball Accepts Bid to USCAA National Tournament NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The St. Joseph’s College softball team formally accepted a bid to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament. Bids were extended to seven teams on Friday by the association with the eighth bid going to the winner of the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) tournament.
April 25, 2009 Lady Bears Overpower Brooklyn College BROOKLYN, NY – Emily Palmieri (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) had three hits and six RBI and Caitlyn Kakavas (Queens, NY/St. Agnes) and Jackie Marinello(Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne) scored three runs each in an 8-0, 9-1 sweep of Brooklyn College on Saturday afternoon at National Grid Softball Field.
April 23, 2009 Softball Splits With Purchase, Snaps 10 Game Win Streak BROOKLYN, NY – Lisa Scheer (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) pitched a complete game, striking out five and scored the winning run in a 2-1 win over Purchase College on Thursday evening at National Grid Softball Field. The Lady Bears dropped the nightcap, 5-1. Emily Palmieri (Staten Island, NY/St. John’s Villa) hit 4-for-5 on the twin-bill, the only Lady Bear to register multiple hits for the series.

April 19, 2009 Lady Bears Surrender One-Hit to New York University Preserving Winning Streak BROOKLYN, NY – The crowd of over 100 who attended Alumni, Family and Friends Day at National Grid field were treated to beautiful spring weather, great food and one of the most exciting finishes in St. Joseph’s College history with the Lady Bears sweeping New York University 1-0 and 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. St. Joseph’s is on a nine-game winning streak and 16-2 since returning from the Tucson Invitational Games to start the season.
April 18, 2009 Lady Bears Shut Out New Rochelle to Capture HVWAC Regular Season Crown BROOKLYN, NY – Freshman Lisa Scheer (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) batted 3-for-6 with five RBI and pitched a complete game two-hit shutout in a sweep of New Rochelle on Saturday afternoon at the National Grid Softball Field. St. Joseph’s finishes conference play undefeated at 3-0 and captures their fourth Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference regular season title, last winning in 2007.

April 10, 2009 Chiaramonte Pitches Perfect Game in Sweep of Sarah Lawrence BRONXVILLE, NY – Freshman Alyson Chiaramonte(Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) pitched the first perfect game in St. Joseph’s College history in a 10-0 victory (five innings) in the first game of a conference doubleheader against Sarah Lawrence College on Friday afternoon. She also was phenomenal from the plate going 3-for-4 with five RBIs, two runs, and a home run. St. Joseph’s captured the nightcap 11-1, also in five innings.

April 5, 2009 Lady Bears Open Conference Play With Sweep of Rival St. Elizabeth’s MORRISTOWN, NJ – St. Joseph’s College softball started their 2009 campaign for the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference title by defeating College of St. Elizabeth 3-1 and 7-1 on the road on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Lady Bears (6-6) improve to .500 for the season and are 1-0 in conference. (Only the first game of a HVWAC doubleheader counts toward the conference record.) St. Elizabeth falls to 5-15.
April 1, 2009 Softball Loses to Mount Saint Vincent in Rain Shortened Game BROOKLYN, NY – Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) struck out 12 in a losing effort as the St. Joseph’s College softball team fell to Mount Saint Vincent 4-1 in six innings on Wednesday night at National Grid Softball Field.
March 31, 2009 Alyson Chiaramonte Receives AD3I Softball Player of the Week Honors KANSAS CITY, MO. – For her efforts in a week where St. Joseph’s College softball went 3-0 and a first place finish in the Gallaudet Invitational Tournament, freshman pitcher/outfielder Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) was named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Softball Player of the Week.
March 28, 2009 Lady Bears Capture First Place in Gallaudet Invitational Softball Tournament (WASHINGTON, D.C.) After weather forced the cancellation of day two of play, tournament hosts Gallaudet University selected St. Joseph’s College women’s softball in first place of the 2009 Softball Bison Invitational. The Lady Bears went 2-0 on day one, with a 10-1 victory over host Gallaudet and a 15-2 victory over Lincoln University, both in five innings.
March 25, 2009 Lady Bears Defeat Albertus Magnus in Home Opener (BROOKLYN, NY) St. Joseph’s College women’s softball invoked the eight-run rule defeating Albertus Magnus College 12-3 in five innings at the National Grid Field in Greenpoint, Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Bears improve to 2-5 and Albertus Magnus remains winless at 0-3.
March 21, 2009 Softball Drops Two on Second Day of Tucson Invitational (TUCSON, AZ) St. Joseph’s College women’s softball lost to Amherst College 7-0 and Otterbein College 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Tucson Invitational Games. The Lady Bears fall to 1-3 on the season.
March 20, 2009 Lady Bears Softball Conclude Tucson Invitational With Two Losses (TUCSON, AZ) St. Joseph’s College women’s softball wrapped up their appearance in the Tucson Invitational Games with Pomona-Pitzer College 10-1 and St. Mary’s University 10-0. Despite the 1-5 start, this has been the most successful showing by a Lady Bears team in three trips to Tucson. In addition to picking up their first win in Arizona, St. Joseph’s had respectable performances in all their losses, including two losses that went the full seven innings.
March 19, 2009 Softball Defeats Mount Mary on Opening Day of Tucson Invitational Games (TUCSON, AZ) St. Joseph’s College women’s softball defeated AD3I school Mount Mary College 11-2 to to pick up their first win of the 2009 campaign and their first win three years at the Tucson Invitational Games. Freshman Alyson Chiaramonte(Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) was dominant on the mound, pitching a complete game win, striking out 11. In their first game of the day, the Lady Bears lost 10-2 to University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.
