Bollmann Collects Event Win as Men’s & Women’s Swimming Opens Season at Sarah Lawrence Sprint Carnival

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — In their season-opening meet at the Sarah Lawrence College Sprint Carnival, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team captured fourth place behind a first- and third-place finish from freshman Rebecca Bollmann (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy), while freshman Matthew Ramirez (Woodhaven, N.Y./Cathedral Prep) used a fourth-place finish to lead the men's swimming team to sixth place in their collegiate debut on Saturday afternoon.

SJC Highlights

  • In her second collegiate event, freshman Rebecca Bollmann took first in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 37.57 and finished in third place in the 100-yard breaststroke clocking in at 1:24.80. The freshman was the Bears top point receiver, contributing 22 of the team's 63 points.
  • Sophomore Shannon Doherty collected points all five events she swam highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:15.08). She also finished in sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.25), 200-yard freestyle (2:29.75) as part of both 200-yard medley and freestyle relay squads. 
  • Freshman Matthew Ramirez placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:29.55) to score the first individual points for the men's team.
  • Senior Julia Dineen and freshman Valerie Rodriguez finished in fifth (35.18) and sixth (35.48) in the 50-yard backstroke and in sixth (1:18.37) and seventh (1:19.64) adding 15 points to the Bears' tally.
  • Senior Victoria Benalcazar and freshman Kathryn Cosenza both took seventh place in the 50-yard freestyle (33.23) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:32.31).

SJC Brooklyn travels to Patchogue, N.Y. to meet sibling rivals SJC Long Island in a double-dual with The College of New Rochelle on Saturday, November 5 starting at 1 p.m.
