Swimming Concludes Skyline Slate at USMMA

KINGS POINT, N.Y. — In their first competition of the new year, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's and women's swimming teams fell to defending Skyline champion United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday evening.

SJC Highlights

  • Junior Shannon Doherty (Brooklyn, N.Y./Churchill) helped collect 12 of the Bears 63 points on the evening with highlighted by a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle swimming a season-best 27.14.
  • Sophomore Kathryn Cosenza (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) swam a personal-best 29.30 in the 50-yard freestyle.
  • Sophomore Juan Sandoval (Ridgewood, N.Y./Christ the King) lowered his personal best in the 50-yard freestyle for the fourth time this season clocking in at 27.15.  

The Bear Facts

  • Finishing their league schedule, the women complete their most successful season at 3-4 in conference meets.

Next Up for the Bears

  • With three non-conference meets to prepare for the Skyline Championships, St. Joseph's faces borough rivals Brooklyn College on Thursday, January 18 in a meet rescheduled from last week's Winter Storm Grayson.
