Hudson Valley All-Academic Teams Announced

NEW YORK, NY – The Hudson Valley Men’s Athletic Conference (HVMAC) and the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) released their All-Academic Teams for the Winter/Spring semester. In total, 13 Bears and Lady Bears received All-Academic Team recognition, pushing the total to 18 for the 2010-11 academic year.

KANSAS CITY, MO – For the third consecutive year, junior Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) has been rewarded for her outstanding play by the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I). An All-Independent first team selection in 2009-2010 and the 2008-2009 Freshman of the Year, McQuillan has been named to the All-Independent Second Team for her junior season.

UNIONTOWN, PA – At the annual banquet commencing the 2011 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Basketball Championships last week, the USCAA recognized the members of the 2010-2011 All-American and All-Academic Teams. Tara Gleason (Woodside, NY/Stella Maris), Joanna Marciniec (Glendale, NY/Baruch), Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) and Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) were all named to the National All-Academic Team.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The men’s and women’s basketball teams both prevailed in their semifinal games and will play for the conference titles today in the HVMAC & HVWAC 2011 Basketball Tournament at the College of New Rochelle. The Bears face Berkeley at 2 pm with the Lady Bears facing Albany Pharmacy at 4 pm.

BROOKLYN, NY – Sophomore Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) scored a career-high 21 points, but a poor first half shooting performance dug the St. Joseph’s College women’s basketball team a hole they couldn’t get out of, falling 69-62 to Lancaster Bible College on Saturday night.

BROOKLYN, NY – For the fourth time this season the St. Joseph’s College women’s basketball team squared off with a USCAA top 10 opponent. In January it was the Apprentice School, last night it was Briarcliffe who brought their high scoring offense to Brooklyn Technical High School. In the end, the Lady Bears couldn’t keep up with the Seahawks and dropped their second straight, 103-88.

ALBANY, NY – In a rematch of last year’s Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Championship game with the regular season title on the line, the St. Joseph’s women’s basketball team suffered a 82-39 setback to Albany College of Pharmacy. Albany Pharmacy clinches the regular season title improving to 3-0 in conference, while the Lady Bears drop to 3-1 in the HVWAC and 9-13 overall.

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Both the Lady Bears and the Dolphins had a difficult time finding any offense, but it was Staten Island who was able to generate enough to pull out a 58-50 victory. The two teams combined to shoot just 30.5% from the floor and committed 37 fouls. St. Joseph’s now has lost back-to-back games and fall to 7-12 (1-0 HVWAC) on the year.

BROOKLYN, NY – In a USCAA battle that pitted two top 15 teams and perennial rivals, the #12 St. Joseph’s College women’s basketball team held a 30-26 advantage at halftime but couldn’t hold off #7 Apprentice School, falling 66-59 on Saturday evening at Brooklyn Technical High School. Sophomore Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) paced the Lady Bears in defeat scoring 14 points and falling one rebound shy of a double-double.

BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College women’s basketball team led from start to finish, taking down Albertus Magnus, 79-61. The Lady Bears played a complete game in all phases as five girls eclipsed ten points and the team collected a season high 62 rebounds. The last time the Lady Bears surpassed 60 rebounds was January 30th 2007, in a game against New Rochelle. St. Joseph’s also dished out 22 assists and caused 25 Lady Falcon turnovers as each aspect of their game was working.

FARMINGDALE, NY – The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team had their worst shooting effort of the season and failed to break the 50 point mark for only the third time this season, falling 77-48 to defending Skyline Conference champions Farmingdale State College.

BROOKLYN, NY – The Lady Bears showed off their depth and posted their third best shooting percentage of the season in a 68-38 blowout of City Tech. Birthday girl Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) and Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) had a team high nine points apiece and each girl on the squad played at least nine minutes. The Lady Bears up their record to 6-9 (1-0 HVWAC) and have won two of their last three contests.
