Retas Tabbed USCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Recognizing her outstanding performance on the hardwood, junior forward Samantha Retas (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) has been named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Player of the Week after leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team in scoring and rebounding during the week.

Last year's USCAA First Team All-American selection averaged a double-double for the Lady Bears at the NYU Tip-Off Tournament. The junior's game of the week came on Saturday against Staten Island as she recorded her 16th career double-double dropping in 20 points while securing 17 rebounds. The forward also dished out a team-high five assists and drained four treys in 37 minutes of action against the Dolphins. For the week, Retas averaged 11.5 points per game, 12.5 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game.

Retas earns the first Player of the Week accolade for the Lady Bears this season and has now won the award three times in her career.

The Lady Bears return to action on Wednesday, November 20th travelling to borough rival Medgar Evers for a 7 p.m. matchup.
