Women's Basketball Cruises Past Medgar Evers for Third Straight Win, 78-45

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Every active Lady Bear player tallied points as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team defeated Medgar Evers College, 78-45, Wednesday night at the Hill Center.

Freshman Destiny Marino (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) scored a team-high 16 points, nine rebounds and dished six assists. She has now scored double figures in 15 straight contests for the Lady Bears (10-7) as they won their third straight contest. Taylor Raccuglia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) recorded her third double-double on the season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 boards, while Samantha Retas (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) added 14 points and eight rebounds.

Junior Lauren GaNun (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) tallied a team-high 12 rebounds along with four points and three blocks, while Erica Eddy (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King) and Jamilynn McGowan (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides) each poured in six in the win.

Nia Tompkins led the Cougars (1-18) with a double-double, scoring 17 points, and grabbing 10 boards in a losing cause. Kimonia Mullings also notched a double-double with 16 points and 13 caroms, while Mlimwengu secured 10 rebounds to go along with two points.

Following a back-and-forth first seven minutes of play, the Lady Bears jumped out with a 14-2 run that put them up by double digits and would lead 37-22 at halftime. A quick 10-1 run in the first five minutes helped build the advantage to as many as 36 points in the second stanza.

St. Joseph's held the Cougars to just 23.7% (18 for 76) from the floor, while shooting 44.0% (33 for 75). They earned a 25-6 edge on assists, and also got plenty of help from their reserves, scoring 36 bench points.

The Lady Bears will have a day off before returning to action on Saturday when they take on Valley Forge Christian as part of Alumni Hoops Day at the Hill Center. The women's game will tip off at 5:00 p.m. Live stats and video coverage will be available at SJCBears.com
