Women's Basketball Looking for Their Sixth Straight Victory Against Yeshiva

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team (12-7, 3-0 HVIAC) will look to extend their winning streak to six games when they head on the road to face Yeshiva in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Thursday night at The Wellness Center at the College of New Rochelle. Tip time for the game is at 8:00 p.m.

Last Meeting

The Lady Bears rallied to overcome a 14-point deficit in the second half to earn an 87-78 victory over Yeshiva University on January 29, 2014 at Brooklyn Technical High School.

Megan Moran scored a career-high 24 points along with six rebounds, three assists. Samantha Retas also poured in 19 points and grabbed a team-high 18 rebounds for her team-leading seventh double-double.

Kelly McNamee finished with 20 points while junior Taylor Raccuglia added 17 points, seven rebounds and tied a school record with six blocks.

The Lady Bear Facts

St. Joseph's is led by senior Samantha Retas, who leads the team with an average of 13.3 points per game and is second in the HVIAC with 13.1 rebounds per contest. The forward has notched ten double-doubles this season, which is second most in the HVIAC.

Retas continues to be one of the best rebounders in the country, averaging 10.0 defensive rebounds which is third in all of NCAA Division III. She has totaled 10 or more rebounds in 13 games this season and 50 times in her career.

Destiny Marino is second on the Lady Bears with 13.1 points per game, second on the team with 7.3 rebounds per game, and is tied for first place in the conference with 4.4 assists per contest. The freshman has shot efficiently in her first season, ranking second in the HVIAC with 45.9% shooting. She has now scored double figures in 17 straight games.

Senior Taylor Raccuglia is currently is third on the team averaging 12.8 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per contest and second on the team with 3.8 assists per game, putting herself sixth in the HVIAC. She is coming off a 23-point, 13-board performance for her fourth double-double in the Lady Bears' win over Berkeley.

Lady Bears Last Time Out

The Lady Bears played suffocating defense and forced turnovers as they topped Berkeley (N.Y.), 59-44, in a HVIAC game Tuesday night at the Hill Center to move into first place in the conference.

Senior Taylor Raccuglia recorded her fourth double-double on the season, tallying a game-high 23 points along with 13 rebounds and five assists. Destiny Marino added 14 points and seven rebounds, and has now scored double figures in 16 straight contests.

Samantha Retas added eight points, 10 rebounds and four blocks, while Jamilynn McGowan also chipped in with eight points off the bench.

Marino Earns HVIAC Rookie Honors

With her performance on the court last week, freshman Destiny Marino was awarded the HVIAC Rookie of the Week honor Tuesday. This is her fourth time winning the accolade this season, which is tied for most in the conference. Marino averaged 15.5 points per game along with 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists while shooting 76.5% from the field in two St. Joseph's wins.

The Mac Attack

Yeshiva is paced offensively by senior Stephanie Greenburg, who leads the team with 15.6 points per game on the season and is fifth in the HVIAC. She is a viable threat from beyond the arc, ranked fourth in the conference by shooting 31.6 percent from downtown.

Julia Owen tallies 13.0 points per contest, which is second on the team. Rachel Mirsky and Simee Rosner are tied for third on the team, each averaging 8.9 points per game.

The Maccabees have three players in the HVIAC top-10 in rebounds per game. Rosner is fourth with 10.3 boards per game, while Owen is seventh adding 9.0 rebounds per contest. Greenburg is ranked ninth with 8.0 rebounds.

Yeshiva Last Time Out

The Maccabees shot 53 percent from the field as they defeated Pratt Institute on the road, 88-14, Tuesday night at the Activities Resources Center in Brooklyn. 

Rachel Mirsky led Yeshiva with a game-high 21 points, including three triples, along with seven rebounds. Simee Rosner added 16 points on 8-for-13 shooting, seven rebounds and four blocked shots. Ester Kerzner netted 11 points and four steals, while Julia Owen scored eight points, eight steals and dished a game-high 13 assists.
