The Bear Facts

  • After a six-game road stand to open the season, the Lady Bears return to the comforts of the Hill Center, seeking their first win of the season under first-year head coach Tom Flahive '75.
  • The Lady Bears played the inaugural game at the Hill Center last December against Old Westbury, falling by 8, but compiled an 8-3 mark at home after that loss.
  • Last year's HVIAC Rookie of the Year Destiny Marino is not displaying any effects of a sophomore slump, leading the team in scoring (16.8) and connecting at a team-best 43% connect rate.
  • Senior Erica Eddy is off to a career start entering the game averaging 11.8 points per contest and scoring in double figures the first four games. Eddy averaged 3.6 ppg over her first three seasons.
  • Freshman Victoria Porcasi ranks third on the team in scoring (9.3 ppg) and earned a spot into the starting lineup the last two games. She currently leads the league in FT% (.885) after shooting an SJC-record 12-for-12 in the game at Lehman.

Panther Prowlings

  • The Panthers have traded wins and losses to start the season and look to move above .500 for the third time this season.
  • Old Westbury finished with an 11-14 overall mark last season and 4-8 in league play, one spot out of the Skyline tournament in fifth place.
  • The Panthers return 2014-15 First-Team All-Skyline honoree Crystal Barnes and were picked to finish fourth in the preseason coaches poll.
  • Entering the week, Barnes led the league in FG shooting (.575), ranked second in scoring (17.3 ppg) and seventh in rebounding (6.7 rpg)
  • Raven Pentz logs over 35 minutes of playing time directing the Panther offense with a league-best 5.3 assists per game.
