Porcasi Drains Six Treys as Women's Basketball Clashed With Staten Island

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Freshman Victoria Porcasi (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) drained six three pointers en route to a team-high 18 points leading three in double figures, but The College of Staten Island used late run in the second quarter to distance themselves from the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team, handing them a 74-57 non-conference defeat on Saturday afternoon.

  • The Lady Bears took their first lead of the game in the second quarter, but CSI used a 12-3 run over 2:53 late in the frame to carry a 38-28 lead into the lockers and SJC couldn't cut the deficit to single digits.

How it Happened

  • CSI got off to a quick start pulling head 9-2 but the Lady Bears closed the first quarter on an 9-2 run capped by the first of Porcasi's six trifectas to end the period deadlocked at 11-all. 
  • Another Porcasi trifecta at two minutes into the second period gave the Lady Bears their first-and-only lead of the game, 20-18, before a 12-3 spurt in the final minutes of the period built a double-digit advantage the Lady Bears couldn't cut into the remainder of the game.

  • Freshman Victoria Porcasi netted all her points from behind-the-arc with six made triples on an SJC record 14 attempted treys
  • Destiny Marino had a near double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds along with a pair of assists and steals.
  • Senior Erica Eddy scored in double figures for the sixth game with 11 points and a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe
  • Junior Kristen Candelaria pulled down a team-high 11 boards with seven points, her fourth career game with double digit rebounds.

  • Christina Pasaturo and Samantha Flecker posted matching 17-point, 13-rebound games leading three Dolphins recording a double-double.
  • Alyssa Carlen flirted with a triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and four blocks.
  • Jamie Pifalo contributed 13 points
