Three Lady Bears in Double Figures but Farmingdale Surges Past Women's Basketball

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Freshman Victoria Porcasi (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) tallied 18-points but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) couldn't keep pace with the preseason Skyline favorites suffering a 75-62 decision to Farmingdale State on Thursday evening.

Turning Point

  • Farmingdale closed out the final five minutes of the first quarter with a 10-1 run building a double-digit advantage  and never turned back.

How it Happened

  • The Lady Bears took the lead on two occasions early on Samantha Simon and Victoria Porcasi trifectas but the preseason Skyline favorite according to the coaches used a 9-0 run and an 11-1 run to lead 22-11 at the end of the first.
  • St. Joseph's trimmed the deficit to six on a Kellie O'Neill triple three minutes into the second stanza, but a 16-2 run over the next three-and-a-half minutes pushed the lead above 20 where it remained for the rest of the game.
  • The Rams led by as many as 32 midway through the fourth quarter before the Lady Bears found a spark and closed the gap with a 21-2 run to end the game.

For the Lady Bears

  • Victoria Porcasi scored a team-high 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting and 3-of-4 from behind the arc. The freshman also dished out three assists and pulled down seven rebounds.
  • Erica Eddy added 10 points and secured four caroms shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
  • Destiny Marino contributed 10 points, five rebounds and as many steals in 18 minutes plagued by foul trouble.
  • Samantha Simon chipped in six points with four assists.

For the Rams

  • Skyline leading scorer Tyra Harrison poured in 32 points along with eight assists.
  • Meghan Cleary added 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
  • Charnae Jenkins added 14 points and three thefts.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Lady Bears were not outrebounded for the first time this season, both squads grabbing an equal 49 boards. St. Joseph's also pulled down 20 on the offensive end, holding an 18-15 edge in second-chance scoring. 
  • St. Joseph's finished at a 29 percent (19-65) connect rate while the visitors hit at a 40 percent clip (30-75).
