Hopkins Named Skyline Rookie of the Week

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Recognizing her effort in scoring a game-high 16 points against the College of Staten Island last week, freshman Gina Hopkins was named the Skyline Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week announced by the conference earlier today.

In the only action last week for the Bears (1-3), the freshman guard from Astoria, N.Y. made the most of her first collegiate start last Tuesday and registered her first double-figure scoring game with a fourth-quarter outburst where she drained four three-pointers and scored 12 of her game-high tally.

The Monsignor McClancy High School product played all but two minutes of the losing contest and finished shooting 6-of-13 from the field while also grabbing three rebounds and handing out one assist.

Hopkins and the Bears return to action this Thursday, December 1st, opening Skyline Conference play at sibling rivals SJC Long Island. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. with live stats and video available on SJCBears.com.
