Four Bears in Double Figures as Women’s Basketball Takes Wire-to-Wire Win Over Yeshiva

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Sophomore Victoria Porcasi (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) led all scorers for the third straight game scoring 21 points and junior Destiny Marino (Howard Beach, N.Y./Christ the King) added 18 points in an 81-59 Skyline Conference win over Yeshiva University at home on Tuesday evening.

Sophomores Nina DiCioccio (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) and Alyssa Alioto (Staten Island, N.Y./Moore Catholic) both netted career highs with 11 and seven points, respectively, as the Bears snapped a two-game skid and moved within a half-game of playoff position.

How it Happened

  • The Bears scored the first eight points of the contest and later used a 12-1 run to create a sizeable lead with two minutes before the break. Victoria Porcasi and Destiny Marino combined for 17 of the Bears 25 points in the frame as they led by 16 after 10 minutes.
  • The Maccabees cut a Bears lead that grew to 19 down to just 10 points in the second, but the Bears closed out the final two minutes of the half on a 12-4 run to take a 45-27 lead into the lockers.
  • Porcasi would score 10 in the third quarter and Marino added six to help the Bears keep the lead over 20 for most of the period.
  • Nina DiCioccio had eight points and five rebounds in the fourth quarter alone as the reserves held off the Maccabees to seal the victory.

  • Destiny Marino filled the box score with 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists. The junior shot an efficient 6-of-7 from the charity stripe en route to her 15th game this season in double digits.
  • Freshman Lauren Quesada contributed 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, with six rebounds, and pairs of assists and steals.
  • Sophomore Nina DiCioccio erupted for a career-high 11 points, six rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist in just 14 minutes of action off the bench.
  • Sophomore Alyssa Alioto remained in the starting lineup for the second straight game and recorded career-highs of seven points and four assists.
