Farmingdale’s Dominant Second Half Gives Them Victory Over Women’s Basketball

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — In their return to Skyline action after two-straight non-conference tilts, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team took on Farmingdale State College on the road on Wednesday. At halftime, the Bears deficit was just single-digits, but a dominant third quarter propelled FSC to their fifth league win of 2017-18.

  • Farmingdale controlled the third quarter 26-7 pulling them out to a lead that would be too much for the Bears to overcome.

How It Happened

  • The Bears fell down 9-0 early but five-straight points from Nina DiCioccio (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) at the halfway point of the first closed the gap to four. SJC continued to hang around for the remainder of the period and trailed 18-13 heading into the second.
  • Junior Captain Victoria Porcasi (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) nailed two jumpers in the span of 21 seconds (7:28) to cut the deficit to four (21-17) early in the second. However, the Rams used an 8-0 run (3:18) to establish a commanding 34-20 lead, but rookie Kelly O'Donnell (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) knocked down a nifty running hook with under a minute to go to bring the score to 36-29 at the half.
  • Thirty seconds into the second half Porcasi netted a triple to bring her squad back within four (36-32), but that would be the closest the Bears got for the remainder of the game.
  • For the rest of the frame the Rams stormed out to a 21-2 run capped off by a Kaelyn Ward layup (2:39) and they went on to hold a 62-36 advantage entering the final quarter. FSC then won the fourth 22-19 to secure a no doubt victory.

For the Bears

  • O'Donnell notched a team-high 18 points (6-10 FG, 2-4 3FG, 4-5 FT) along with seven boards.
  • Porcasi picked up yet another game in double-figures with 11, as well as five rebounds and a steal.
