Porcasi Moves to Third All-Time in Scoring as Mount Saint Mary Downs Women’s Basketball

NEWBURGH, N.Y. — Despite 16 points and eight rebounds from junior forward Lauren Quesada (Westbury, N.Y./St. Francis Prep), the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team fell to Mount Saint Mary College, 80-38, on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Senior captain Victoria Porcasi (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) scored six points in the loss which pushed her career point total to 1,531, moving her past Michelle Softy '06 for third on the Bears' all-time scoring list.

How It Happened
Katie Smith buried a three with just under four minutes to go in the first to give the Knights their first double-digit lead of the game (12-2). A Quesada jumper brought the Bears within seven at 2:17, but the hosts closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to lead 23-7 after one.

Mount Saint Mary held SJC scoreless for the first 4:36 of the second to establish a dominant 36-7 advantage. Kayla Cleare paced the Knights with 12 points at intermission as they led 40-15 at the break.

The Knights defense kept St. Joseph's to a 24 percent mark from the field in the second half and outscored the Bears by 17 points over the final two frames to maintain their undefeated record in Skyline play. With the loss, SJC fell to 9-4 in conference play and sits at third in the league standings.

For the Bears

  • Quesada had a team-high 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting with eight boards, an assist, and a block.
  • Rookie Jamie Provino (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) was the only other Bear in double-digits with 10 points (3-8 3FG), two rebounds, and a steal.
  • Porcasi entered the game with a 29-game double-figure scoring streak and finished with six points on a quiet offensive night.
