Women's Basketball Takes Care of Business at Mount Saint Vincent

 

RIVERDALE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's basketball team came away with a 71-55 road victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday evening. The Bears were led by Emma Kiley (Whitestone, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) who logged game-highs of 17 points and 15 rebounds and was one of five Bears to score in double figures. 

How it Happened

The Dolphins (5-8, 1-7) held on to a 9-7 edge with 3:21 in the opening quarter. SJBK (6-6, 4-4) then went on a 7-0 run to close the period with a 14-9 lead.

The Bears weathered off several CMSV attempts to tie the game in the second stanza. Three pointers late in the period from Alexis Breen (Union Beach, N.J./Keyport) and Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) gave the navy and gray their largest lead of the quarter, 31-18, before going into the half with a 31-23 advantage.

St. Joseph's continued to distance themselves from the hosts in the second half; leading by as many as 19 late in the fourth quarter, 70-51. Kiley and Grace Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) scored a combined 25 points in the half as the Bears took a 71-55 triumph back to Clinton Hill.

For the Bears

  • All seven Bears that saw playing time scored on the night.
  • Kiley logged her ninth double-double this season. She also forced three steals. Her 15 boards are a new season-high.
  • Wednesday was Kennedy's third consecutive game hitting double figures, scoring 16 with six rebounds and three assists.
  • Destiny Hurt (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) recorded with 12 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
  • Donovan finished with 11 points, a pair of rebounds and as many assists.
  • Breen totaled 10 points and four boards.
