Mount Saint Vincent Squeaks Past Women's Basketball on Senior Day

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — An 18-point, 11-rebound double-double from Emma Kiley (Whitestone, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) was not enough for the St. Joseph's University, N.Y./Brooklyn women's basketball team as the College of Mount Saint Vincent escaped The Hill Center with a 60-57 win.

Along with Kiley, Alexis Breen (Union Beach, N.J./Keyport) and Ayomide Adeoye (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) were honored in Senior Day ceremonies prior to the opening tip.

How it Happened

The two sides traded baskets throughout the opening quarter with CMSV (10-12, 6-11) holding to an 11-9 edge.

The Dolphins found their rhythm in the second, leading by as many as 13 with less than four minutes remaining, 29-13. A pair of triples from Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) began a 9-2 Bears (11-10, 8-8) run to end the frame, trailing 31-25 at the half.

A 7-2 start to the third quarter saw the SJBK deficit shortened to one, 33-32. The Bears held the visitors to a one-possession lead for much of the period, taking a 46-43 lead on a Grace Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) three pointer with 2:41 left. They held the margin, 48-45, going into the fourth.

A few minutes into the fourth, the Dolphins swung the advantage back in their favor, 54-51. The Bears went from down six to two, 59-57, thanks to a Donovan triple with 1:10 remaining. However, Mount Saint Vincent banked a free throw to confirm their three-point win.

For the Bears

• The newly-minted record-holder for blocks in program history, Kiley was responsible for four rejections; two shy of becoming the first-known Bear with 200 career blocks. The center is also 24 points shy of reaching 1000 for her career.
• Adeoye totaled nine points and as many rebounds, six of which coming on the offensive glass. She also forced a pair of steals.
• Donovan finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 dimes, a season-best for the rookie.
• Kennedy totalled 11 points and had a team-high three steals.
