Farinella Tabbed HVWAC Soccer Rookie of the Week
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Recognizing her outstanding effort in goal and helping the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team remain undefeated in their inaugural season, Nicole Farinella (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport HS) has been selected as the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
The junior goalkeeper made nine saves during a scoreless, 0-0 deadlock with borough rivals Brooklyn College last Thursday. Farinella made five second-half saves including two breakaway opportunities to preserve her second shutout of the season as the Lady Bears have not allowed a goal yet this season.
It is the second straight rookie of the week selection for St. Joseph's with Pamela Chernyakhovsky (Brooklyn, NY/Leon M. Goldstein) earning the distinction last week.
St. Joseph's (1-0-1) returns to the field on Thursday, September 20th facing sister campus St. Joseph's College (Long Island) for a non-conference road tilt at the SJC Outdoor Complex in Patchogue, NY starting at 7 p.m. Fans can follow the game with live stats on www.SJCBears.com.
