Women's Soccer Overwhelmed by Brooklyn College

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team couldn't keep pace with borough rivals Brooklyn College, dropping a 6-0 decision on Wednesday evening at Brooklyn College Field.

The Lady Bears (0-3) were undermanned as they played the entire game with eight players and they were overwhelmed from the start as the Bulldogs (3-0) first shot of the game came 57 seconds into the contest and they would not look back as they attacked early and often maintaining possession of the ball in St. Joseph's end for the majority of the game.

Brooklyn bombarded Lady Bears senior goalkeeper Nicole Farinella (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport HS) with shots throughout the game as they dominated the shots on goal holding a 31-1 edge. Farinella ended the night setting a school record and career high with her 25 saves. The previous high was 20 saves set by Farinella last year at St. Joseph's (L.I.)

The Bulldogs got on the board early scoring in the 4th minute on a shot by Sayla Flores that got past Farinella giving them an early 1-0 lead before Shan Nakhid-Schuster found the back of the net in the 6th minute giving Brooklyn a 2-0 lead after only 6 minutes of action.

Nakhid Schuster struck again in the 21st minute taking a cross from Meagan Cranston and putting it into the back of the net to put the Bulldogs up 3-0. Brooklyn concluded their scoring in the first half with a goal by Sangam Gurung that came off a rebound giving the Bulldogs a commanding 4-0 lead heading into intermission.

Brooklyn tacked on two more goals in the second half as the Lady Bears had no answers for their attack.

Sophomore Shannon Fahy (Breezy Point, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) recorded St. Joseph's lone shot on goal with it coming in the 26th minute of the contest.

The Lady Bears have a week and a half break before their home opener against CCNY on Sunday, September 22nd at Brooklyn Technical High School with kickoff slated for 12 p.m.
