BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team exploded for 11 goals en route to a 11-0 shutout of Medgar Evers College in their Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) opener on Thursday afternoon at Calvert Vaux Field.

St. Joseph's dominated the action from the opening kickoff as they bombarded Medgar Evers goalkeeper Marlene Thompson with shots, holding a 23-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Six different Lady Bears found the back of the net in the contest led by a pair of hat-tricks from senior Cynthia Gambino (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and sophomore Shannon Fahy (Breezy Point, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) who recorded her first collegiate goals. Fahy finished the night setting school records with her five assists and 11 points.

Sophomore Pamela Chernyakhovsky (Brooklyn, N.Y./Leon M. Goldstein) added her first goal of the season and senior goalkeeper Nicole Farinella (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport HS) also got in the action netting her first ever goal.

Gambino opened the scoring in the 5th minute of action off a ball from Fahy to give St. Joseph's an early 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later Fahy scored her first of the day off a pass from Chernyakhovsky and the rout was on as the Lady Bears scored seven goals in the first half.

St. Joseph's tacked on four more goals in the second stanza as the Medgar Evers defense had no answers for the offense of the Lady Bears.
