Fahy, Usta Earn USCAA and HVIAC Weekly Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Two St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer student-athletes earned accolades for their outstanding play on the pitch last week as junior Shannon Fahy (Breezy Point, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Player of the Week and freshman Cansu Usta (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fort Hamilton) was named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Rookie of the Week.

In two games last week, Fahy and Usta racked up eight goals each helping the Lady Bears to a 2-0 start. Both players currently sit atop NCAA Division III in goals per game (4.0).

Fahy, a midfielder, also assisted on another goal to record 17 points on the week. Last year's Association of Division III Independents Offensive Player of the Year scored six in the season-opening win against Medgar Evers, setting a new Lady Bears record for goals in a game. Fahy received USCAA honors for the first time in her career and was also recognized to the HVIAC honor roll for her efforts this week.

Usta jumped out to a tremendous start to her collegiate career compiling back-to-back hat tricks in her first two collegiate games and also had three assists to amass 19 points. The newcomer had five tallies in the 9-2 win over Sarah Lawrence on Sept. 12.

St. Joseph's currently off to their best start in their three-year history at 3-0 and has averaged 9.7 goals over the stretch.

Both Fahy and Usta lead the Lady Bears back onto the pitch tomorrow as St. Joseph's welcomes Fisher College from Massachusetts to Aviator Sports and Events Center. The men will start the doubleheader at 4 p.m. with the women in the nightcap at 6 p.m.
