Four Turn Hat Tricks as Women's Soccer Soars Past St. Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J.—Six different Lady Bears scored a goal and four tallied a hat trick as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team cruised to a 19-0 non-conference road triumph over the College of St. Elizabeth on Friday afternoon.

The 19 goals scored were the most in a Division III men's or women's soccer game this season and ranked tied for fifth all-time in Division III women's soccer.

St. Joseph's (7-2) raced out to a 4-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes of play, junior Shannon Fahy (Breezy Point, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) scoring the first goal in the 7th minute and freshman Cansu Usta (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fort Hamilton) notching a hat trick with tallies in the 8th, 13th and 14th minutes.

The Lady Bears took a 13-0 lead at the intermission, outshooting the Eagles (0-11), 29-10 in the period and finished with a 39-16 shot disparity.

Cansu finished with six goals and two assists on the day, her 14 points the most in a NCAA Division III game this season. The six scores matches Fahy and three others as the most goals scored in a game this season.

Fahy would finish with four goals for her second hat trick of the season and junior Pamela Chernyakhovsky (Brooklyn, N.Y./Leon M. Goldstein) and freshman Christina Caruso (Queens, N.Y./St. John's Prep) each added three goals apiece – Caruso recording her first career hat trick.

Senior Daniela Semilia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) scored two goals with an assist and Jamilynn McGowan (Staten Island, N.Y./Petrides) tallied her first goal of the season.

Senior Nicole Farinella (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) made eight saves in recording her third shutout of the season and 13th of her career.

St. Joseph's, who jumped up two spots to No. 10 in the latest United States Collegiate Athletic Association Coaches' Poll, returns to the pitch on Tuesday, October 7th, hosting Lehman College in a non-conference tilt at Aviator Sports and Events Center starting at 7 p.m.
