BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Freshman Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) broke out for five goals, classmate Rachel Rocha (Linden, N.J./Linden) scored twice, and eight different Bears found the back of the net as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team rolled past York College, 13-0, in their 2017 home opener at Aviator Field.

How It Happened

  • Sequeira started the scoring early, in the 12th minute, tapping in a through-ball from fellow rookie Anisah Molic (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner). She struck again just four minutes later finishing a ball from classmate Rachel Rocha (Linden, N.J./Linden).
  • Rocha and Molic then joined the scoring with goals of their own in the 27th and 35th minutes before Sequeira completed the hat trick in the 38th minute to give the Bears a 5-0 lead headed into the lockers.
  • St. Joseph's piled on eight more scores in the second half. Christine Emigholz (East Elmhurst, N.Y./St. John's Prep), Rebecca De Rosa (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot), Lauren Quesada (Westbury, N.Y./St. Francis Prep), Merima Kokale (Staten Island, N.Y./New Utrecht), and Lisa Loschiavo (Malverne, N.Y./Valley Stream North) all netted their first goals of the season.

For the Bears

  • Led by Sequeira's five goals and an assist, the freshman class combined for 10 goals and eight assists. Rocha finished with two goals and as many assists, while Molic and De Rosa added a goal and a pair of helpers and Loschiavo chipped in one goal and one assist.
  • The ball lived on one side the entire game, with the Bears firing 40 shots and the defense holding the Cardinals without a shot as Quesada was credited with the win in a combined shutout with Rebecca Bollmann (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy)
