OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team picked up their second league win of 2017 over SUNY College at Old Westbury on the road on Saturday. The victory came on the back of freshman Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson), as she nabbed two goals and dished out an assist.

The Basics

  • Final Score: St. Joseph's 3, Old Westbury 2
  • Records: St. Joseph's (6-4, 2-2), Old Westbury (2-10, 1-4)
  • Location: Old Westbury, N.Y. — Panther Park

How It Happened

  • The Bears looked more aggressive early on, outshooting Old Westbury 6-3 in the first 27 minutes. Then, in the 28th minute, sophomore Rebecca Bollman (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) found Sequeira who blasted the ball past the keeper for a 1-0 lead.
  • It only took SJC 10 minutes to extend the lead, with Sequeira leading fellow rookie Anisah Molic (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) downfield to beat the keeper for the goal and a 2-0 cushion.
  • At intermission the score remained 2-0 SJC, but the Panthers didn't let that last once the second half began. Five minutes in, the Bears keeper lost track of the ball, which ended in a goal for the visitors credited to Shauna Henderson. In the 57th minute Henderson got on the board for real, lifting the ball over the keeper to knot the score at two.
  • Sequeira came to the rescue for St. Joseph's, as her game-winner came in the 68th minute with a deke of the goalie and an easy goal to seal a 3-2 Bears win.

For the Bears

  • Sequeira notched her 14th and 15th goals of the season on seven shots, along with her eighth assist.
  • Molic cracked double-digit goals with her tenth, coming on five shots.
  • Sophomore Lauren Quesada (Westbury, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) saved five shots on the day, as she saw seven on goal.
