BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team hosted undefeated Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday night. The Bears took a 1-0 lead, but the visitors' offense caught steam and pulled away before the half, taking home their fifth league victory.
The Basics
- Final Score: Mount Saint Mary 9, St. Joseph's 1
- Records: Mount Saint Mary (11-2-1, 5-0), St. Joseph's (6-5, 2-3)
- Location: Brooklyn, N.Y. — Aviator Field
How It Happened
- The Bears opened the scoring, as Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) lined up a set-piece from 25 yards out into the top left corner of the net for a 1-0 advantage (16'). However, SJC's scoring would halt there as Mount Saint Mary scored four goals in a span of 10 minutes. Destiny Ribadeneyra scored or assisted on all of the goals on the run.
- The Knights took a 6-1 lead into the half, and outshot the Bears 22-1 in the opening 45. The aggressive offense of Mount Saint Mary continued to attack in the second, picking up another goal in the 52nd minute to extend the score to 7-1.
- SJC failed to answer the burst of goals, with two more being tallied on by the visitors before the final minute. Ribadeneyra netted a hat trick in the Knights' fifth Skyline win along with zero losses, which tied them with Farmingdale State for first in the conference.
For the Bears
- Sequeira scored her team-leading 16th goal on her only shot in the contest.
- Sophomore keeper Lauren Quesada (Westbury, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) came away with double-digit saves for the fourth time this year (10).
