Molic Scores Twice as Women’s Soccer Upends Maritime

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — Sophomore Anisah Molic (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) netted her eighth and ninth goals of the season leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team (5-5, 2-1 Skyline) over Maritime College (1-5, 0-1 Skyline) 3-1 on Saturday and pushing them above .500 in Skyline play.

How It Happened
Molic broke the tie immediately as she corralled a pass from Rebecca De Rosa (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) and got past the keeper for an open net goal (3'). Freshman Julia Lavelle (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louise Academy) doubled the score in the 20th minute as she stole the ball from a defender in the backfield and notched the eighth goal of her rookie campaign. Maritime's shot in the 16th minute was their only of the half as SJC led 2-0 at intermission

Kayla Kelly got the Privateers on the board 10 minutes into the second half, tapping in a corner kick in a crowd of players to cut the deficit to 2-1. Molic secured her second tally of the game late (78') for a two-goal cushion as the Bears held on for their second-straight win over Maritime and second conference victory of 2018.

For the Bears

  • Molic scored twice on seven shots (five on goal) and her nine on the year are good for second in the Skyline.
  • Lavelle fired four shots picking up the eighth tally of her rookie year as she sits right behind Molic at third in the league, while the goal was the first game-winner of her career.
  • De Rosa attempted two shots and picked up an assist, while Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) and Rachel Rocha (Linden, N.J./Linden) added three shots apiece.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Reem Shaban (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Utrecht) had two saves in her fifth victory of the season.
