Sequeira’s Third-Straight Multi-Goal Game Lifts Women’s Soccer Over Pratt

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team (3-0) won their third-straight contest behind junior Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) and her third-straight multi-goal game defeating the Pratt Institute, 5-1, at Aviator Field on Saturday afternoon.

Classmate Rebecca De Rosa (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) scored her first goal of the season in the victory as the Bears remain perfect on the young season.

How It Happened
SJC opened the scoring in the fifth minute as junior Anisah Molic (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) lined up a free-kick from the top of the arc and led Sequeira who lofted it in on the left side. Then, just five minutes later, Sequeira drew the keeper out of the net and dished to Molic with a short through ball who tapped it into an open goal for a 2-0 advantage (10').

The Bears added two more scores before intermission with the first coming off the foot of sophomore Julia Lavelle (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) who buried a deflection into the right side of the net. Sequeira went on to net her second of the game three minutes before halftime, firing a low ball past the goalie off of a pass from De Rosa giving them a 4-0 edge at the break.

The second half started slow until a St. Joseph's foul in the box in the 60th minute led to a penalty goal from Erin Lutz for the Cannoneers first tally of the day. However, the Bears' defense didn't allow any more Pratt offense, holding them to just three shots in the second, and De Rosa scored her goal late to secure the win.

For the Bears

  • Molic (three shots) and De Rosa (one shot) both had a goal and an assist on the day.
  • Sequeira padded her team lead with her seventh and eighth goals of the season while her tenth-minute assist gave her three-straight outings with a helper.
  • Goalkeeper Reem Shaban (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Utrecht) saved four of the five shots on goal she saw as she picked up the win in net.
