Overtime Goal Sends CCNY Past Women's Soccer

NEW YORK — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team (6-2) suffered an overtime defeat, on Randall's Island, at the hands of the City College of New York (3-4), 3-4, on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened

Junior forward Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) provided the Bears with early scoring opportunities but failed to find the back of the net. CCNY's first shot of the match resulted in the opening goal, putting the Beavers up 1-0. Following the goal, the Bears outshot CCNY in the half, 10-7; which included a shot by Anisah Molic (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) that hit the right post.

The Bears quickly attempted four shots to begin the second half. In the 53rd minute, freshman Clara Curtiss (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) found a loose ball in front of the goal and scored to tie the game, 1-1. Sequeira added to her team-leading goal tally in the 59th minute, when she beat the CCNY goalkeeper to give the Bears the first lead of the game at 2-1. Less than a minute later, CCNY tied the game at two. The Beavers retook the lead in the 65th minute on a goal by Ingrid Rosario. The Bears responded two minutes later when Curtiss found Molic to level the score, 3-3. Molic and Sequeira looked for a game-winning goal in the final minutes of regulation but could not convert on their chances as the game went into overtime.

Rosario scored her second goal of the game four minutes into the bonus period to give City College the 4-3 victory.

For the Bears

  • Sequeira led the Bears in shots (13) and shots on target (7). Molic's five shots and two on target were good enough for second on the team.
  • Curtiss provided the lone assist of the game in the 67th minute.
  • Reem Shaban (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Utrecht) saved seven of 11 shots faced, one shy of her season-best.
