Braces From DiBartolo and Molic Lead Women's Soccer Past Maritime in Season Finale

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. — Christina DiBartolo (Middle Village, N.Y./Forest Hills) and Anisah Molic (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) both scored twice and added an assist to power the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team to a 5-3 Skyline Conference victory over Maritime College on Wednesday evening in both team's season finales.

The win snaps a 10-game skid for the Bears who conclude their season at 7-11 overall and in ninth place with a 2-8 league record. Maritime (5-12, 1-9) finishes behind St. Joseph's in 10th place.

How it Happened

Rachel Rocha (Linden, N.J./Linden) opened the scoring in the 19th minute with an unassisted tally and the Bears never trailed in the contest. SJC quickly moved ahead by two less than a minute-and-a-half later when Molic found DiBartolo for a long run up the right side and finished high short side.

The hosts cut the Bears lead to one on a Sarah Wright goal in the 27th minute, before Molic joined the scoring in the 36th minute off a flick-on header from Haley Fahrmann off a long service from Lisa LoSchiavo (Malverne, N.Y./Valley Stream North) and chipping it over the goalie for a 3-1 lead that they carried into the lockers despite being outshot 10-7 and surrendering two more corners, 4-2.

The second stanza saw both teams score a pair of goals each, with all four tallies coming in a span of five minutes from the 61st to 66th minutes. Maritime started the flurry to cut their deficit to 3-2 with SJC responding 93 seconds later with Rocha setting up DiBartolo with a breakaway opportunity that the put away low left for her second of the game.

Wright found the back of the net again in the 65th minute for her second of the contest that brought another one-goal game but the navy and gray answered less than a minute later with another long through ball that set up another breakaway opportunity with DiBartolo sliding a pass over to Molic for a shot at an open net to cap off the scoring.

St. Joseph's finished with a 14-6 shot edge in the half to end up outshooting the hosts 21-16.
