BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) women's soccer team used a three-goal second half to beat the SUNY College at Old Westbury 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon from Kingsborough Community College.
How it Happened
After a scoreless first half, the Bears (4-7-1, 2-5) were awarded a penalty, after Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) was brought down in the box, five minutes into the second. Ashley Pintado (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Christ the King) slotted the penalty in the bottom-left corner for the opening goal.
At 65', Alexis Breen (Union Beach, N.J./Keyport) found Katherine Barrios (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) on a throw-in. Barrios then found Castaneda, who headed home the second goal of the match.
With less than two minutes remaining in the contest, Bethany Perez (Phelan, Calif./Serrano) fired a shot from well outside the box and beat the jumping Panther (4-7-1, 1-5-1) keeper to seal the 3-0 win.
